Hello again all! I've continued to pain 'plein air' with the added wonderful weather. As from Sunday I will have been involved with three of the 'UK Plein Air Society' meetings. It is always, I'm sure, you'll agree, it's great to paint in the company of other painters. The Society goes from strength to strength. This weekend we have a meeting at Salisbury Wiltshire. I'm sure you'll remember the paintings, one in the National Gallery, that Constable did of the cathedral.

For anyone who hasn't try Rosemary's Brushes. She has an excellent selection of brushes made by her, many not obtainable from anywhere else. The service she gives is second to none.

I am worried that this good weather lasting, as it is, so long into what are the 'winter months' will when it's gone bring some very adverse conditions. Still no excuse for not painting outside! Some of our best paintings are completed under such conditions. Need the right clothing though; I'm going to buy one of those hats that have ear pieces that can be tied under the chin.

I'm a member of the UK Plein Air Society and attended a meeting at Bakewell in Derbyshire UK last month. Initially, it was misty and cloudy, then about an hour of rain before the sun came and stayed for the rest of the day; and very nice it was too. In a couple of weeks I will be going to Salisbury for the last meeting for 2011.

Yesterday I travelled to London to collect three painting that I unsuccessfully entered into The Royal Institute of Oil Painters exhibition to be help at the Mall Gallery London.

The three paintings were each 28" X 18" each (oil on board). As you can imagine with protection boards each side of them, 4mm thick, I was carrying a heavy bundle. The added contribution of travelling by coach bought its own stress. The journey from where I live to London is about 70 miles; along with a 30min walk to the gallery !! Painting, is not all about swishing a brush about.

I'm exhibiting at the Royal Opera Arcade Pall Mall London in February as part of the Parallex AF.

I am, at the present , undertaking a number of things. Painting for a shared exhibition 'SIix of the Best' Exhibition at the Horsebridge Gallery. Whitstable, Kent. 7th/21st December 2011.

Undertaking, a series of paintings of Whitstable and Canterbury Kent to be exhibited early summer next year in galleries at Folkestone and Canterbury.

Hi All,

I have recently completed demonstratios for both the Canterbury Society of Art (a still life 'flowers') and for Herne Bay Society of Art (Watercolour landscape).

I have now completed all of my paintings for the Parallax A.F and frames. I'm please with them, but I always think I could do better!

I'm sure you are the same, it seem to me that part way through a painting I actually work for the painting, it is at this stage creativity begins and I don't know what the end result will look like.

My studio was in the 30's today, can't expect much else with a flat metal roof. Even with two fans working no difference was noticed. Should have more sense! This is why usually, in the summer months, I work in the evenings.

I have just replenished the paints in my French easel and I'm looking forward to painting outside again; but with pre-planned events it wont be for about a fortnight. Roll on!

Roy

It great to see some sunshine. At last, the chance to paint outside and not get cold. I was painting in Whitstable one day last week it was wonderful. I do paint in other weathers, each seems to have its own attractions. I go with a limited palette, of oils, and usually a French box easel - for the sizes it takes I have never had anything better. I do use pochade boxes as well (7X5) (6X8) and (12X10) they are very handy for outdoor work, which is what they were intended for; but obviously can be used anywhere. This week, and next, I shall be in the studio upgrading pochade box sketches, but not of Whitstable, too 20 X 16 and 24 X 18 canvases ready for exhibitions this coming spring and summer. I really am behind - again!!

All the best to you all; especially with the painting !!!!

Roy
