About Roy.
I have painted, albiet intermittently and mainly in oils, all of my life. I exhibit locally and am a keen member of the Canterbury Society of Art and the SAA (Society for All Artists).
I am an artist and art tutor and have for a long time painted outside; the only way, I believe, atomosphere and light can be truely recorded. I do paint in my studio, 'The Blue Turtle Studios' near Whitstable Kent, for finishing work and still life. I have painted in France and Italy, a number of times, as well as throughout the UK
My initial interest in painting, in both oils and watercolour, was to record streetscenes; with which I was obsessed! Only in recent times has my interests drifted toward landscape and seascape.
I am overwhelmed by the beauty and the mystery landscape and seascape evoke. I was so lucky to have had a father who, like me now, was enchanted by the landscape of this country of ours. He introduced me to it at an early age. Those early experiences haunt me today, and so far, I have failed to fully capture, in paint, what I experienced then; their effect on me, all those years ago.
